Shadowed dentist a relative?

Hey guys -

I shadowed my uncle who is a dentist and is the one who got me *really* interested in dentistry. Should I say that I'm related to him on the application (he's my uncle by marriage) or should I just be open about the face that I shadowed a relative? 😕

Doesn't matter. On your AADSAS application there is a question asking whether or not you have any relatives who are dentists. You should include your uncle in that section as well. It's ok to say that you shadowed your uncle. I certainly did and I admitted that during my interviews. It only shows the dental schools that you have family in the field which, will help you on your path to success.

I know what you're thinking; that the dental school might think you faked the shadowing because he was your uncle. At this point, the dental schools don't really care if you faked it because they don't believe that you would actually dedicate so much of your time and money to a profession that you have never yet experienced.

As a previous poster said, it shouldn't matter. The shadowing is really a benefit to you directly, not the school directly.
