Hi,

I posted something related to this before, but I only shadowed two oral surgeons and an orthodontist...but never a general dentist. Other than the fact that I won't be able to apply to those schools with general dentist shadowing requirements, will it be okay?

Thanks!

Shadowing a general dentist isn't a requirement so U are fine

Hopefully you love general dentistry! Banking on only becoming a specialist is risky. There are a lot of smart kids in dental school. As for admissions, during the interview they may ask you why you never shadowed a general dentist. I had an interviewer who was a periodontist ask me why I never shadowed a periodontist (bad luck).....I wish at that point I had because I had shadowed all the others. Try to shadow one (general dentist) prior to interviewing it will help you with interview questions regarding the why dentistry question etc. Good Luck!

pretend like your sitting in an interview and an admin asks "so how do you know you'll enjoy general dentistry? I hope you realize 70%+ of dental graduates end up in General Dent"

The two schools I have talked to highly recommend shadowing general dentists- and this is not on their web cites. Just to be safe, you should shadow at least 1 general dentist.
