I am a little confused on what to put in the AMCAS. I was supposed to shadow them July, but they both let me shadow them yesterday (somehow). In there I just saw them do some procedures such as the stress tests and order for some blood tests. What am I suppose to put in the description section? Also I read in this forum that we should put both docs in one category. How can someone do that when on the app it asks for the first name/ last name and stuff on one sentence. Do I put a / between each name or something?

This is what I put:

June-July
Shadowing
Other

Description:

Shadowed x, y, and z specialists for a total of abc hours.

I actually just left the contact info blank. Like you said, it only really has space for one, so I figured since, I didn't have a central shadowing coordinator or anything, it was just best to leave it blank. I don't know if it will cause a great ruckus or not, but I doubt anyone will think twice about it. I also didn't elaborate on the description since I assumed they knew what shadowing a particular specialist entailed.

List one and in the description section, list the other's name. Call it (June 2009 to Present and estimate how many hours/wk it will amount to. In the description, just say, "Shadowed Dr. Heartman, cardiologist and Dr. U.P. Daley, urologist. Observed.....

They let u shadow them yesterday. How do you shadow someone for a day and list it under AMCAS?

I was told by my pre-med adviser that since shadowing is a big deal, they should each be listed separately, provided you have enough room on AMCAS. Thoughts?

I would say only list them separately if you have meaningful things to say about each experience. Otherwise just group them all together. Listing them separately just for the sake of doing so will come across as... well, that.

I listed all my shadowing experiences together.

Name, department, hospital, # of hours
Name, department, hospital, # of hours
...etc

I think I might've had one sentence that said "shadowed a variety of physicians in the OR, in the wards, in clinic, at Grand Rounds, etc"

"Shadowing" is pretty self-explanatory.

Man, shadowing is the dumbest thing ever.

Remind me why you people care about this again?

4 hour app fluff what else

Some schools don't "require" it but it is a cheap and efficient way to get an idea of what physicians do all day. If you base your decision solely on your interactions as a patient, or TV shows, you might miss some of what makes up a physician's day.
