When shadowing a dentist, how long per day and how many total hours of shadowing did you have when you applied? (this is concerning the TexasMDSAS)

Also, my dad is a gp, does it matter if I shadow an orthodontist for a LOR or another specialty, or should it be a general dentist??

You can shadow other specialties, but I would stick to shadowing a general dentist and getting a letter from them. You need to make sure you like general dentistry. Anyone can go shadow an oral surgeon because they want to OMS, but fact of the matter is, only a VERY small percentage get to do OMS or any specialty for that matter, so it is important to get broad exposure to what general dentistry is like. Then you can shadow other specialties in addition to your general dentistry exposure if you choose to.

When I applied, I had about 100 hours of shadowing 2 different general dentistry practices.
