I'm a bit lost here. Can anyone give me advice on how to go about this? What do I need to do to shadow a dentist? How do I find a good one to shadow? etc. By the way, does anybody know a good one in LA preferrably close to ucla? Thank you.

i just looked up some dentists in my area from the yellowbook and called them explaining i was a predent at ____ university and was interested in observing some dentistry. I called about 8 of them and 2 agreed. I have since shadowed one of them for about a month now.

good luck.

Thanks. I'll try that. Can you also tell me what type of work you do if any? Or do we just follow the doctor around everwhere?

I didnt really do anywork except bringing some supplies to the doc but i got really well with him and his staff so we would chat some when the doc isnt too busy.

yeah so basically i asked a few quetions after each patient what that item, procedure, ect was and the doc would explain to me. I gues u have to find a dentist who actually likes teaching, which mine did.

just be respectful of the dentist/assistants and their work and everything should be fine. personally, i did a little assisting and mostly observation. there was also a lot of discussion on pretty much everything about dentistry during some downtimes. i like to ask questions and he likes to teach so that worked out quite well 🙂
