shadowing a dentist

Guys

I'm about to free up some time for shadowing and I was just wondering what kind of tasks are involved in "shadowing" a dentist besides just watching alongside a dentist. I'm guessing I won't be actually partcipating in any assistance but I would like to know this before I contact some dentists. Thanks in advance.

Depends on your dentist.
-suctioning
-standing silently behind them
-cleaning
-answering phones
etc.
dont worry, they arent going to make you pull teeth.
just try to get your questions answered

I never really understood how people could have hundreds of hours shadowing. I've assisted a lot of dentists but standing behind them literally watching 100s of procedures seems a little boring doesn't it?
