Do dental school adcoms think highly of shadowing abroad to see a different side of the dental care system, outside of the US? I am considering shadowing a dentist in China this summer for about 10 weeks. Would this experience be viewed positively by dental admissions officers? Not only would I be shadowing a dentist and learning about dentistry, but I would also be immersing myself in a different environment and familiarizing myself with my Chinese roots. What do you think?
I think this would also be a good chance for me to earn 300 shadowing/volunteer hours. Would they count for both if I shadow and assist around the office?
