I am wondering should I postpone more shadowing until I receive my MCAT scores....that way I am sure if I am going to MD or DO or Anesthesiology Assistant Program.....

I have shadowed before I have 40 hrs with a pediatrician...he said he will write my a letter, I have taken a shadowing course at my uni where I shadowed various doctors...I didn't spend enough time with one doctor to get a LOR but the professor who taught the class is a MD so I am sure he can write me a LOR and I have shadowed an DO and he said he will write me a letter.... I want to shadow again because my shadowing experiences will be about 1-2 yrs old and the professor who taught the shadowing class said medical school like to see tons of shadowing. ( I trust the professor, he has taught at NYU COM, UM COM and now at FAU COM)

I have a 3.71 overall GPA...I have a sciGPA of a 3.62 and I am an URM ( black female)

BUT I LACK E.C.

I had been a mentor for Palm Beach County for 3 months for girls who had an unplanned pregnancy and need help with school, the baby and life in general.

I had been an interpreter for Haitian Creole at the Cardid Center for 3 months which is a well known Free Health Clinic... Nova medical, dental, and pharmacy students train there.

I have 200 random volunteers hours at nursing homes, and other random volunteer events.

After the MCAT I am planning to work as a tutor..and find some other job.....I need the money, so I might end up working as a CNA that way I get clinical experience and money.

And if I have time I might do some research.I hate working in labs so I do not plan to do science research but I will ask my former Medical Sociology teacher if I can help her in her research or I will try to do some other public health research.

It would help for any of those programs.... As long as it doesn't get in the way of your studies I think it shouldn't be a problem.

The score you got on an admissions exam at age 22 shouldn't define what you do with the rest of your life. Focus on doing well enough on the MCAT so that you choose your career on your own terms.

K. thxs for the advice I am going to shadow while studying... I can shadow once a week for 4 hrs for 3 months each month change a doctor so I can get to shadow 3 different doctors...2 MDs and 1 DO just in case.

how about doing a week with 1; 1 week with another. Get it done and over with.

As I understand it, LORs from physicians have minimal impact and carry much less weight compared to letters from professors and people who know you well over a long period of time. Make sure you are looking at schools requirements and have a minimum of 2 LORs from professors.

I want to spread out my shadowing... so once a week is good also I don't have a whole week to devote to shadowing if I am shadowing for the mcat.....now I am thinking about getting a job as a CNA and working 1-2 days a week...earn money while getting clinical experience and then shadowing starting in Feb,

I already have sci and non sci professor to write my letter.
