I'm finding it so easy to shadow a OD in private practice, but i can't find any commercial places that allow students. Ex: Empire vision says they don't allow students because of corporate policy, etc... Don't I need to shadow at least 1 commercial OD be4 my interview, what do I do? :-(

As far as I know, none of the schools have shadowing requirements like that (but I only looked at 4 schools so I could be totally wrong). I tried shadowing at a Pearle but ended up getting an actual job instead... I've never heard of corporate places not allowing shadowing.

That's interesting that you're finding it difficult to shadow in a commercial setting. For me it was just the opposite - every commercial joint that I went into were happy to let me shadow. Private practice on the otherhand was difficult. Where are you located? I have never heard of Empire vision before.

I worked at lenscrafters, in the retail side, and the Drs were always more than happy to talk to me if they didn't have patients and we were slow. I think most schools prefer more private practice experience, since thats what they try to push new ODs to do, so even if you don't find a corp to shadow, I think you'll be ok.
