Hello everyone,

I am PGY-4, interested on shadowing/working on Malpractice/Litigation cases so as to learn more about the process involved and in a way looking it as an opportunity to learn from it about ways of safeguarding oneself from these kind of events. Would really appreciate if someone could recommend me about any such kind of shadowing opportunities in NY or any refs for book/conference exclusively dealing with such.

Thanks in advance.

I have not heard of doing this but might consider:

1- reaching out to the medical board to ask if you can sit in on or get involved with case reviews including allegations of malpractice and/or
2- contacting forensic psychiatrists to see if they will review malpractice cases they have worked on. Your program faculty can probably point you in the right direction.

Search JAAPL for malpractice articles that discuss common malpractice claims for psychiatrists. Forensic psychiatrist Steve Noffsinger has written some articles about this.
