I barely got the call saying I got accepted into my local hospital's shadowing program for the rehabilitation department! I was thinking about refreshing my information from my old Human Physiology and Anatomy/Physiology courses. Did this help you when you were on your own shadowing experience? Any tips/questions to ask the PT would be helpful so I can get the most out of this experience. Thanks, all!
 
I have a question... if for some chance I won't be able to shadow at my local hospital, do you guys think shadowing in a nursing home seeing OP's, Subacute, and SNF's ALONG WITH, a second setting of outpatient pediatrics will be enough?

Or would you hold off and keep calling as much as possible to get into more shadowing hours for acute inpatient? (Total I have about 300 observation nursing home, 600 PT aide, and 50 pediatrics OP)...

I was just wondering if inpatient hospital work is something they downright look for us to see?

I know that a lot of the schools that I'm applying to want us to have inpatient AND outpatient hours. I would keep calling. It took me 4 months to get into the hospital I'm observing at now and I called every single hospital in the area multiple times. I live in Northern VA and there are like 30 hospitals around here.

Regardless, I think that you SHOULD observe at an inpatient setting in order to get a well-rounded view of the PT profession. I was dead set on doing sports PT and now that I've been working on my inpatient observation hours, I'm not so sure. It's so much more complex and interesting and I love it so far. I've been working with neuro/cardiac patients.
 
You should check with the nursing home first...the nursing home that I am at is considered an inpatient population since the people I am working with all live there.
