Hey guys,

How do you verify the amount of shadowing/volunteer hours you have on your application if you have done it at multiple places? I'm thinking of asking my dentist for a LOR(about 40hr so far), but had done volunteer/shadowing at a dental clinic as well (roughly 150hr of different fields - ped., perio, ortho, endo). Also, the amount of hours spent at the clinic was more than the hours spent shadowing my dentist. The reason for this decision is because I think I can get a better LOR from my dentist than the one from the clinic. Though, I'm going to tell my dentist to put down the amount of shadowing hours, how do I write down the amount of hours I shadowed at the clinic? I want to emphasize that I've done work at both places on my application, but how can I? Get a letter from two dentists (can I do this with a committee recommendation?)

Sorry if this isn't a well written thread, I'm rushing and about to head out the door

thanks for responding.

There's a section on AADSAS where you can write down all of your shadowing experiences. No need to worry about a second LOR!

Infact, you should go make an AADSAS account now and print off all the fields. This way in june you can start a new one for the next cycle and know all the fields/information you need to fill it out.

+1

That actually sounds like a great idea. Maybe I'll make one around May and see what I need to get (obv. the important stuff, I'm getting readying now! - LOR, personal statement, etc..)

Though there is a option for selecting shadowing and volunteering, is there a place to put the accumulated amount of hours? Also, is there a place where they require a name and phone number to verify? If so, since I am volunteering at the hospital and all, do I put down the number for the volunteer office? or the dental department? (volunteer office has all my records, but dental doesn't)

It doesn't open until June. Make one now before this cycle ends in Feb or whatever date it ends. It could help a lot to fill it out beforehand. It would take a day or two otherwise. And you can ask us all the questions now about where to put certain info/what to leave off.

@dantemac

Just want to make sure - if I start filling things in now, will the things I fill in be moved over to the next cycle application when I apply? (sorry, newb question :laugh:

No, im pretty sure it doesn't save it unless you e-submit.

Yeah, it used to not re-submit year after year at all. Now, it re-submits only if you pay for it submit in one year.

I wouldn't do that. The $200 to apply somewhere is not worth the day or two it'll save you. Just make an account and get a feel for it. You can even see if your personal statement is the appropriate length or something like that.
