I noticed that the shadowing hours part is not a "required field". Do I really need to list the hours? The only required field part is the dates part...What do you guys think?

Also, how do the schools really know that we did the shadowing or not? Do you all think it's okay that I have a letter or recommendation from an orthodontist and not a general dentist?

You really should fill in the hours part. Some schools have stated minimum shadowing hours. You can ask the dentist for a LOR in which the hours can be verified. Generally, advice is that you shadow a GP and then specialists but this is a rule of thumb. The idea is that you get exposed to what the practice of dentistry involves. A GP will give you good general exposure.

thanks reapply2007. I have shadowed a orthodontist for 3 years now. however, not a General dentist yet....

What do you think I should do?

do you have any idea how the schools actually confirm that we have done the shadowing hours??
