I don't know exactly how many hours I have shadowed each dentist. Do I put an estimate or what>? Does the admissions want you to be exact on the number of hours(do they confirm the # of hours with the dentist)?

some schools require a certain number of shadowing hours and want proof of that but if the schools you're applying to don't need it, then your best guess is good enough and they don't confirm it....at least i don't think they do because there's no contact information.

Most schools want 30+ hrs. So, just estimate how many hours you spent at the office per week, and then extrapolate that number to figure out how many hours you spent per month and/or year.

for ECs/volunteers, is it still ok to only put in the start date & weekly hours and leave the 'total hours' blank since i cannot really recall all of them?

I feel like the more time you spend on shadowing, the better chance you would get into a dental school... besides that working at a dentist's office itself is a precious experience for your future because you are just observing what a dentist is doing...
