Shadowing/LOR

Hello,

So I want to gain some additional clinical exposure, and I am planning on calling up some DOs and ask if I can shadow them. My question is that if I am shadowing them now and applying to Medical school next year, can I ask them for a LOR next year or would that be too long?

I would ask them after you've shadowed them a number of times if they would write one for you next year. Then you can give them the option of writing it now or writing it closer to the deadline. That way they can do what ever is more convenient for them. They would also have it in mind either way and can prep for the letter for it accordingly, when ever they write it
