Hello guys, I have a quick question on shadowing-

I have shadowed a dentist for aprox. 75 hrs. Dentist has many other dentists working with him including- oral maxillofacto- endodontist, perio, and cosmetic.

Problem is- He lives in France. I spent my summer in France and shadowed a BDS- I believe- I'm sure it's not a DDS since that's American.

Is that going to be a problem? Or should I shadow some American Dentist? I mean the Dentist in France was extremely competent and does cosmetics on local french celebrities. He's really well known- but hes not American.

What should I do? BTW I'm an American applicant.

Adcoms are looking for experience, not necessarily numbers. So that works in your favor --- shadow an American dentist. You dont have to pour in hundreds of hours -- just sufficient for you to understand the daily goings in an American practice.
For example:
- the staff you will be interacting with
- instruments you will be purchasing, not sure if companies in the two countries differ
- INSURANCE.

I think having your french dentist on your application would be cool - you have experience of other systems and can possibly try to incorporate some of their ideas in order to make your practice and your community better as a whole. 😀
