Hello! I am applying to MD school this coming June 2023. I currently have 82 shadowing hours (40 in cardiology, 42 in interventional pulmonology). Do I need more to be competitive? Do I need some in primary care as well? I have 1200 hours of scribing in the ED, but I know this isn't the same as shadowing. Thank you.
Shadowing is not one of those ares where more is better. It serves to show you have seen the daily life of a practicing doctor.
Your scribe job serves as clinical activities, so the place to be sure you have enough hours now is in non-clinical volunteering.
