I know that you have to have most of your shadowing hours with a general dentist. If I want to shadow any of the specialties, what would y’all say should be the maximum hours I should shadow a specialty? Or does it matter?

It does not matter. Shadow specialists at your own interest. In fact, many schools even like for you to explore the field before applying. Just remember to keep your options open and decide your real interest in specialties once you’re in dental school.

Shadow as many different types of offices as possible. I wouldn't stay more than 40 hours in each office. 8-10 is probably enough to get an idea of what's happening. I'd try to check out a oral surgery, prosthodontics, ortho, general dentistry, community health center.
