Hey guys,
I'm applying this upcoming cycle and I just have a quick question about shadowing. I shadowed for approximately 120 hours in high school between two different dentists. Both are very close to my family and they'd write me a LOR if I needed, but I'm wondering whether high school shadowing is enough to apply with? Do they prefer college shadowing even with high school shadowing? Thank you in advance for your input! 🙂

Thank you! Do you think I can write that it was my freshman year of college since I completed the hours during the spring of my senior year and during the summer after? Am I technically considered a college student the summer before college? I'm not trying to be dishonest so of course if those three months are something they really care about then I definitely respect that and won't adjust to three months later. Thanks again for your feedback 🙂

Well technically... I shadowed during high school (nearly 200 hours) while I was taking 4 hours of community college courses during my senior year of high school. I'm wondering if this would count since technically I was enrolled in college at the time. If not no biggy but just curious.

Yes, I have the same question. I have 120 hours of dental shadowing from May 2014, and began undergrad September 2014. Could I still include that in my app? I graduated HS during the time I was shadowing

The impact of shadowing during high schools may be quite different than that of a seasoned college student.

I run a volunteer clinic in Los Angeles and I have students shadow and assist. We have had High School through senior undergrad predental students. It is defiantly a motivator to continue if you like the field.
