hi
So i have over 500 hours of shadowing in my home country (i only came here in 2013), with 3000hrs of hospice and hospital volunteering. Since I have been here I have about 50hrs volunteering, 40 hours Primary Care MD shadowing (who also happens to be a professor at NYMC) and 30 Hrs DO shadowing.

As far as clincial experience goes, is this enough?

Mind you I haven't included anything else I have done eg work professionally, public speaking, debates, on campus clubs etc.

Probably enough shadowing. Probably not enough volunteering. Most med schools want >100 hours preferably >>100. I have no idea how shadowing and volunteering are viewed in other countries. Do you have LOR from them?

Well 3000+ hrs a hospital/hospice in mh home country.

In the US like 50 hopefully get it to 75 by August, but not in a hospital, just with places like In Gods Love We Deliver, animal shelters, teaching etc.

I have a stellar LOR from a dr i worked for there, he literally wrote 3 pages for me! Even i was shocked when i read it- didnt know i was so useful lol.
Another LOR from the hospital i volunteer for a long time.
So thats 2 MDs in pakistan, 1 MD in usa 1 DO in Usa in terms of LORs.. Can get another from the volunteer place if needed.

I wish i had more volunteering here but I havent been here very long- 2 years yeah but i know it still kinda sucks 🙁 will it really count against me?

Why would the non-US volunteer work not count? People from the US go to other countries to volunteer and count it in their apps; why can't you? Does AACOMAS have a rule against this?

No, a med student told me that the fact i am from another countey and the bulk of my life experience is outside the US will count against me. Hence i have been trying to build experience here but its hard because I'm enrolled in classes full time and working

To me clinical experience is clinical experience no matter where you get it. Plenty of college kids go abroad and say they did so and so and claim it. You should be able to do the same. Of course in your application mention what was in the US and what was abroad. I think the quantity of hours is overrated to an extent. Just because there's a student that has 5000 hours vs a student that has 200, doesn't make them a better doctor. I will admit though that it shows dedication.

I was asked why I didn't have more hours (I think I was ~300) and I told them it was because I went to school full time, worked full time, and the rest of my free time was spent with my wife and daughter. The doctor said "ok" and moved on. Not a big deal.
