So I'm a pre-med convert and am now pre-dental. I see that dental schools expect MUCH more shadowing of dentists than medical schools do of physicians. Do most people shadow a single dentist for all this time? What do you do all of this time shadowing - anything in the scope of volunteering, or is it just all actual shadowing as in just watching dentists for 100+ hours? Still learning the ropes of the whole dental school process vs. med school process.

I did about 100 hours at one dentist office. Then went for a day at a time to a few other offices basically all the specialist he used to refer to

Just seems weird idk how to go about it. I shadowed my dentist for a day but do I ask him to shadow him regularly? Or do I just ask him every time I want to shadow? Does it matter if it's with one dentist for several hours or multiple dentists for less hours each?

Yep just ask him to do it regularly it’s not weird at all. Make a schedule

I did like 2/3 of my hours with a couple general dentists, but also did like 50+ hours with several different specialists too. This was brought up in every single dental school interview I had, they all seemed impressed with shadowing several different people instead of just doing them all with one or two dentists.

Yep just ask him to do it regularly it’s not weird at all. Make a schedule

I'm new to my college town should I just email a dentist here and ask him to start shadowing or would you recommend scheduling an actual appointment and asking then?

I'd recommend just showing up in the morning before they open and asking to shadow.

they may respond to an email, may just get junked.
