Yeah... I did my first shadowing experience today. I pretty much stood or sat on a stool in the corner waching the dentist and the assistant nurse or whatever you call them doing some extraction and other stuff. That's pretty much what I did for 7 hours. Is this what shadowing experience supposed to be like? What did you guys do over at the dentist? Did the dentist let you do anything or something? By the way, I don't get paid for this.

yup thats the fun about it all, you don't get paid squat, and don't expect to either...you are unqualified to make the slightest physical contact with the patient. What were you expecting to do? An extraction yourself? You're basically there to kiss the dentists' behind and do grunt work...
I suppose I got lucky and got a dentist who loves to help out predentals and is pretty interested in the admission process. You should try to get a broad experience in your shadowing, and if this dentist isn't teaching you a whole lot, and you're standing in a corner the whole time...then you definitely need to watch someone else.
