Can you submit your application even though you don't have any job shadowing experience yet? I was planning on shadowing in July, but I would like to send my app. ASAP.

yea i shadowed to see hwo i like it and i looooveeeed it so now i'm focusin gon studying for the DATs. I'm hoping to do amazing to make up for the fact that my dental experience hours will be so low. Some ppl have been shadowing and working in the field since high school! ther'es no way to catch up to that. I'm just gonna work on the parts of the app that I still can do well in and hopefully it'll make up for the others that I clearly can't win or compete as much in 😳😱

I haven't submitted my apps yet though because I don't know how many schools I will apply to - it'll depend on how good my scores are.

What are you gonna end up doing? How about everybody else do you recommend this plan is good or that I need to get hours to put on my app ..if so how many is enough?😕

some schools have required hours amount right? how do I find out how much for which school?

send it in and when you have your hours get a letter of rec from the dentist you shadowed send it to all your schools!!

but won't it look bad that I don't have a good amount of hours? not having dental hours is one of the main things that's keeping me from submitting the online app. Especially because some schools have set hours. I've done a LOT of other volunteer work but I don't want that to be seen as me just appying to dental school as a back up from other interests or anything so I guess I'm weary of it and want to at least be able to put some amount of hours down. I've done some shadowing but it's not even a full weeks worth yet. :scared:

How much is enough until you all think it's okay to submit the online app and have AdComs see that I am genuinely interested? Did any of you apply with low number of dental hours and get in?😕

which schools have set hours? how do we find out?

hahaha to the person that said "looooooooved it"

I was tryin not to fall asleep! Probaby cause I couldn't see anything

really? i guess i had such a good experience because the dentist I shadowed did make an effort to make sure I could see and I guess me being an eager beaver and always asking questions really made me get a lot out of it. plus everyone was super nice so it just made the whole experience more plesant 😀

You can submit and indicate you are shadowing or have ongoing shadowing and fill in the blank for the number of hours you will have in four-six weeks (about the earliest possible date it will be sent to schools). You could then have your dentist LOR forwarded through a service such as Interfolio directly to all of your schools. However, ideally your shadowing hours would be adequate for school requirements when you actually submit your application.
