Hey guys. I have been viewing these forums for about a year now and have become more and more interested in going through medical school as the time has gone by. I am currently still in my undergrad(non-traditional) years. I work as an EMT for a hospital here in Atlanta but I know that I want to extend my career in the medical field beyond riding the streets. I am very curious, especially, about the field of anesthesiology but have only had very limited exposure. I am curious as to what you guys/girls would recommend to someone who is interested in doing a couple days of shadowing an anesthesiologist. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Wes

Ask yer ED doc buddies who the cool anesthesiologists are, shoot 'em an email, and get it sorted.

P.S. IMO, anesthesiology is very different from most of the other medical and surgical specialties. Saying you're interested in anesthesiology and saying you're interested in going to med school are 2 different things.

Pick one of the big hospitals that you probably transport to already, call the hospital, and ask for the anesthesia office, tell them who you are and what you're interested in doing. DeKalb, AMC, Northside, St. Joe's, Kennestone, Piedmont, and others, all have large anesthesia departments and are used to having students around.
