They don't know about it, that's all it is.

My uncle suggested I do the corporation thing too to take advantage of the tax laws.

Are you going to do it?

so sad I did a panic sell half of my shares on PLTR. Now have to wait till next year to go back in. Argg

No one should ever panic sell. If the stock you own falls and you feel you should sell, you shouldn't be in it anyways. They should be seen as buying opportunities.

I'm a proponent of this approach and its served me well so far. I really don't like the idea of selling with the intention of buying back in later. Ideally, I only want to pay taxes when I'm exiting for good.

Yep I'm weak!

Going to buy $1000 ARKK everyday until I run out of cash.

For those (@mentos) doing more short term stuff:

Consider investing through a corporation (not an LLC). Pay 21% corporate tax rate on all gains (until Biden changes that). Keep the money within the walls of the corporation and use it to reinvest/buy rental property/buy rental cars (look at Turo as an example). You can accumulate assets through the corporation, and unless they money leaves the corporation you don't pay dividend or gains tax on it (otherwise you'll get double taxed and actually end up paying more in taxes).

Source - I have a great accountant. If you happen to have a 1099 side gig you can roll that in there - if you hang out at the physician finance forums a lot of them use S-corps instead of LLCs if they're above a certain income. Admittedly I have a very, very basic understanding of all this tax stuff so I rely heavily on my accountant and tax attorney.
Stupid Question: I know that good attorneys and accountants are not cheap... how much are your net savings from tax avoidance after paying these people for their services?
Taxes suck, but it seems like paying these professionals would really cut into profits too?

My wife and I are lucky enough to be DINK's and both docs, so our gross income is ~780k/yr (she's a rockstar and out earns me significantly)

So for us, the tax savings more than make up for it (we usually itemize nearly 6 figures in deductions by the time all is said and done).

Candidly, for the average person, it's so not worth it. I wouldn't even touch a tax attorney unless you're really high income - we did a consultation but don't keep one on retainer as we haven't needed them beyond initial advice.

Ok that makes sense... for the average Joe like me, it’s probably not worth the expense and effort.

Oh damn, no wonder you can make all these baller trades!

Stock market makes no sense. Why are snow and kodak so high?

Everyone is going crazy with FOMO right now. I’m not even trying to play companies, just my interpretation of investor emotion.

As an example - I bought IPV at 11 when Luminar went public. People FOMO’d in and it’s over $14. I bought VGAC (Richard Branson’s SPAC) that doesn’t even have a target yet but I’m up 8% as people are FOMOing in to the ground floor. When my gains hit 30% I’ll bail and I have stop losses set at my buy price + 5%

I’m in AXGT - unless the FOMO hype of SNOW and PLTR dies down before it merges it’s probably gonna follow the same trajectory.

not sure if there are any veteran traders in here (dotcom bubble, great recession, etc) but what are you guys thinking of the current situation ? literally seeing so many tickers up more than 15-20 % every day. some people have said it reminds them of the dotcom bubble. i was too young at the time but would like to hear your opinion.

went into some BB, MP, GHIV today. PSTH effed me up after stripe guy announced there was no deal .

PLTR wins a $44mil contract so its market cap increases by over $20bil in a day, makes sense! Tesla at an all time high too.

I wasn't trading back then but it sounds very similar. The EV bubble is just like the dot com bubble. It's not normal for stocks to double in a week.

Well and EV companies are popping up a dime a dozen with no real proof of concept, just a concept that hardly holds up to scrutiny. And then their stock explodes. So I agree, I think this is a dotcom bubble type deal. I’m gonna keep blowing up the bubble til it pops and hope and pray I’m in the right position when it does. It’s why I’m not holding any of these EV’s as a >1 yr play for long term gains to kick in.

And yes - I realize I may lose big. I’m gonna cash out my initial investment into something safer and just keep playing with the money I made last month on EV’s

I'm almost sure there's a bubble going on, its just hard to tell where and what's going to be the catalyst to expose it. The dotcom bubble burst due as a reaction to over speculation (i think) but also because of scandals and management. At the same time, its important to recognize that the industry wasn't a failure - it really was the future and lead to the tech industry we know today. The promise was realized. EV very well might be the future, but its very hard to believe that everything is being managed at this growth speed without some risks being taken.

How many shares do you have? I'm reading $10 predictions now. Damnit watch me buy back in tomorrow!
I really appreciate you dumping PLTR and causing it to grow meteorically. Let me know what you are dumping next so I can buy in 😉

The only thing I own now is ARKK LoL.

I've never felt so defeated after being +$800 in a day.

@mentos hooked me up with FRSX - it seemed like a loser at first but it's minted me a few bills now. I feel like now that you're out of PLTR and NNDM I better jump on in!

FRSX is another one that I sold for a loss LMAO!

Just do the opposite of what I do. That means ARKK will selloff soon!

I was looking at ARKW today bc it has lots of PLTR shares but 141$, no thanks. My taxable account is at 200% gain YTD, i can't keep smiling 😀

ARKF is $47. They're all good.

I dumped it so it's a screaming buy.
Just breathe and quit panic selling lol 😂

maybe set a stop loss on arkk after it runs, arkk is good for you tho, keeps you in growth stock but is diversified. Hopefully curbing the amount you trade and look at your phone

I've got a problem. I will try very hard not to panic sell this time. I only bought $1k of each, no more going all in. If they drop, I'll average down.

FCEL [email protected]
GIX [email protected]
GHIV [email protected]

FCEL I think can reach 11 by ER in Jan.

The other two are for quick profit. If they go up 50% I'll sell and get out.

Sold GIX yesterday. At like 10.80. I saw it kept going but I took it off my watch list

I’m in GIX at 10.25, bought soon after I originally brought it up. I’m hoping for a run up after the meeting today and will most likely get out as teledoc appears to be the better service.

Debating taking some profits on PLTR. Was actually planning on holding these 200 for a while but its ripping premarket too.

Sold 20 (10%, roughly) at 26.50 but have the rest riding.

What's your exit price?

Guess I bought 150 NNDM too @ 7.05, I didn't think it would hit haha.

Welp, officially at the point where I shouldn't have sold Li and Nio - in the immortal words of Warren Buffett (in meme form) - "hold your $#!7, #&%%$"
