i don't know if there are any farm animal vets here but i want to get a couple small pet sheep and was wondering if there are any special licences needed or restrictions on where you can have them (for example, do you have to be zoned as farmland rather than residential). also, how common are farm animal vets, i don't want to have to travel to another state to get them sheared/hoofed/crutched/immunized/etc. i live in michigan. thanks!

I know in Illinois you need to be zoned by the town or city to have farm animals (goats, llamas, horses, etc.) Usually it depends upon the amount of land you own.

I'd look in the yellow pages or check with a local farmer for info on vets before you get the sheep. The vet may be able to tell you more about local laws, too. If you live near MSU, you could probably go to talk to their vet school and get veterinary care there, too.
