I need help planning my shelf exam schedule.

I am scheduled to start my 3rd year rotations with Pediatrics, followed by ObGyn. My school does not allow me to take my first shelf exam until after my ObGyn rotation. I do not want to sit for both shelf exams on the same day, so I am trying to decide which to take 1st. The other would be delayed until the next available test date, which for me would be between my surgery1 and surgery2 rotation.

I am considering applying for a residency in surgery so I would rather take the "easier" of the two shelf exams at that time, so I can spend the majority of my time focused on surgery.

Obviously, the second option would be to take both ObGyn and Pediatrics shelf exams on that first available date so I can truly focus soley on surgery during those surgery rotations. I have been advised against this by my school as they claim that they (Peds, ObGyn) are the most commonly failed shelf exam.

Can any one offer an opinion based on their experience with these two shelf exams?
