what are the shelf exams and when do you take them?

They are used to rate you and your school's programs against the rest of the country. They are also good practice for the USMLE. I just wish they were given on a computer like the USMLE.

Most of the schools that make you take the shelf exams use them as a final for the course. Some schools also have a minimum score that you must reach to move on.
