Hey, those of you who interviewed at SU, can you give me some feedback about the questions they asked? I have a phone interview with them coming up. I was supposed to interview on Jan. 7, but was unable to attend. I'd appreciate any help you can give me!!

Definitely-interviewed there on that date and got in (seems to be a lucky date on the mb), so...
Honestly, it seems to depend on who is interviewing you. When others came out, it seemed to be a "they just want to get to know you" type of thing. But I interviewed with the chairman of the program and the head of neuro-rehab, so to be honest, I got grilled pretty hard. So in short, be prepared for anything. I used these links from a wonderful previous poster, and was able to come out feeling good:

http://www4.samford.edu/groups/cardev/medquestions.html
http://healthprofessions.calpoly.edu/interview_questions/physical_therapy.html

The pt questions came up all over the place, but the oddball one's from the other link will teach you to think of the "bigger picture."

Good luck, I'm sure you"ll do just fine🙂

Hey, I got in!! The interview must have gone really well because they let me know same day!

This is my first acceptance and I hope to get more, but for those of you who have decided on SU, what was the clincher? What made you choose them over anyone else? I got a really good impression of the program from my interviewer, but since I didnt get to visit, I'd love to hear what others had to say about the program!

Congrats! Interview must have gone really well- never heard of anyone getting in the same day. I had another interview today at a different school- made me realize even more how exceptional SU's program/facilities really are. What's making me lean towards their program is how well rounded your education is going to be (ie a good blend of exercise or manual therapy so that you treat each patient on that individual basis that needs to occur, instead of a generic focus on one thing, etc.) And perhaps it isn't a deal breaker on a place's facilities, but I, along with everyone that I've spoken with who interviewed there (I've encountered a good bit over the last 3 weeks) were really blown away by their facilities. State of the art, updated computer labs, really great cadaver lab, really large area overall (it's in an old hospital), mock hospital rooms so that you can be trained on how to deal with acute care in the hospital, aquatic therapy on-site, 24 hour access for all students, and it's literally connected to Winchester's actual rehab facility for OT/PT/speech therapy, and lastly, they do a ton of community service work. Hope this helps.

I am going to go with Shenandoah. The facilities were impressive and the faculty and students were very friendly. It is in a small town so there probably won't be too much to do, but that can be good and bad. I also like how PT students get the first summer off. Hearing how difficult the first year is, getting that break sounds really appealing.

Has anyone gotten anything in the mail about how to accept? All I got was an e-mail about two weeks ago, nothing since.

I'm leaning towards them heavily myself. Yes, the town is small, but I think that we'll be so busy that it won't really matter- if anything, great camping and hiking within our grasp for some stress relief. You will probably get a hard copy any day now- it will say that you have a month from when you get it to respond with a non-refundable $500 deposit. Congrats on your acceptance, and perhaps I will see you soon.

I had an interview on Thursday the 7th as well and got accepted! It must have been a lucky day. The best advice I can give you if you haven't already had your interview is to be yourself. They like when you are genuine and show an interest in not only PT but also thier program. Try not to be nervous. I remember one guy was super nervous before his inerview but I don't know how it went. I just know that he was in thier for 45 minutes!

They ask basic questions that you should be able to answer easily. You are interviewed by a faculty member and a student. I didn't have the chairman of admissions until the group interview but I hear he is pretty brutal. I heard that he grills the students a lot about thier grades so if you have him be prepared to explain yourself! Also, at the end of the interview they ask if you have any questions for them. I would take advantage of this time and ask them about themselves. I did that in my interview and I think they were really impressed that I didn't dart out of there the first chance I had. Overall, I thought it was a lot of fun and the students were nice and helpful.

GOOD LUCK!

i just wanted to post as a current SU student some of my input. yes the 1st year summer is off, however this summer off you make up in your 3rd year summer. So what this means is while other DPT programs end in the spring, the program here you end in the summer (i.e. I will finish in Aug 2012 while other programs will end in May 2012), this is just a consideration to keep in mind.
my thought is that alot of classes are stretched out for the year, here the anatomy is over the course of a whole year, where most programs its 1 semester. this could be a good and bad thing, depending on how you look at it.
if anyone has questions, feel free to email me

Hey, those of you who were accepted, how long did it take you to get your official letter in the mail??

I got the e mail 4 days later and the letter a week after that.

I interviewed on the 7th, and got the hard copy on the 19th. You may want to contact them if it seems like it's been a while.

Congratulations to those that got into a VA PT program. I just started my PT pre-reqs last semester, so I will not be ready to apply until at least another year. I will be applying for the 2012 program for VCU, ODU, and SU; although VCU and OD are my two top choices because they are public schools and, therefore, cost less than SU.

Can you guys please post your stats (i.e., GPA, GREs, PT hours, etc.)? I am interested in seeing the stats of those who got accepted to Virginia PT programs because I would like to stay in-state.

Thanks!

Most people's stats are up at the top thread, but here's mine just to give you hope for an untraditional pre-pt student. I still haven't heard from either VCU or ODU (and I've asked for an update from both). My advice (and what I would change about my stats) are to get a ton of observation hours-they seem to really boost your chances, and can help you out if your other stats aren't the greatest. Private schools are way more expensive, but they're a good backup plan b/c you're competing against a smaller pool of applicants (hence my two acceptances🙂

University: Virginia Commonwealth U.
Major: Sociology
Minor: Psychology
GPA: (ptcas) 3.6
Pre-req GPA: 3.8 (may go down after AU-got a B in physics)

I just got accepted to SU and also applied to ODU but I haven't heard back. I am pretty sure I am going to go with SU. I was very impressed and turned off that ODU does not interview the applicants. I don't know why people haven't heard back from ODU. Anyway, here are my stats:

University: Towson University
Major: Exercise Science
GPA: 3.7
Pre Req GPA: 3.5
GRE: 450 on both Q and V. 4.5 essay
Observation Hours: 3,000+ in outpatient orthopedics, rheumatology and sports medicine. I also did some hours at a Hospital in Baltimore with Nuero rehab/traumatic brain injuries and Pulmonary/Infectious Diseases.
Applied: Shenandoah, ODU, UNC, Army Baylor, St. Augustine, UMES and University of Maryland-Baltimore.
Interviews: Shenandoah and UMES
Acceptances: Shenandoah so far

GOOD LUCK!
