Shoes in the ED

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone have a high instep? I tried on some Dansko clogs and found them really tight over the top of my foot. Anyone else have a similar experience and what worked for you in the end? Thanks.

Did you try getting them stretched? Many tend to find that helpful. Mine get tight when I'm warm, but I just deal with it (and it helps keep the shoes on).

Birkenstock Professional clog, feels almost the same as the Dansko when standing without rolling an ankle or two while walking quickly

I took a #11 blade and cut a notch where that highest tarsal fit in. Since the leather is doubled over, I only cut out one layer. Worked like a charm.
I had tried moistening the leather and then wedging things into the shoe to stretch it, but it never really worked for me. Of note, hockey pucks work great for this (by work great I mean they are the right size. Maybe they would work in other shoes).

My Birk Alton's arrived about a month ago and I've been wearing them almost non-stop since then. I love 'em!

Take care,
Jeff

What about recs for a flat-footed, weak-ankled woman who's "gone down a few times" wearing regular shoes? Not me, a friend 😛

Bought a set of the next gen Danskos.
I'll let you know in a month how they are.

I bought a new pair of Danskos, but not the 'next gen' style shown above. Apparently, Dankso used to buy the soles from some other company, but that patent ran out. So now Dansko is making their own soles. They are wider in the heel so the roll-outs should occur less frequently.

(the new heels have the Dansko name printed on them. the old heels had the name placed post-production so it is in a rectangle)

Hey, that's good info. I have to say I don't really care for the Dansko changes, so I'm switching to Sanita.

Anyone wear MBT? I tried a pair on today and they really do feel amazing. Too bad they're just so hideously ugly.

I've had literally everything from Borne, to Dansko, Clarke, but I have basically given up on the clog because I don't really care for them. I have since been wearing my favorite cowboy work boots with crepe soles or my Danner's when I fly. I spend more time sitting anyway doing charting than I do standing!! I think we should be talking about the best chairs!!

Well, since I first posted this I finally got some shoes (important since my first shift is on on Monday, ugh). I ended up going with Danskos as I didn't love the latest Merrils (my previous shoe) and everyone I know swears by them; I also found a pair of Ecco boots super cheap at an outlet and since I'll be flying starting this winter I picked them up. I'll report back on my experience.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions! If the Danskos don't workout I'll be back here to explore the many other suggestions.

Good luck to all of my fellow interns with July 1 just around the corner.👍:luck:

birkenstock clogs, some sort of rubber...got em when i was a tech 7 years ago...still with same pair...third set of insoles...closed toe unlike crocs, comfortable...added bonus...autoclavable

Best shoes ever...Sadly, I am spoiled for other shoes...

For those who don't like the Dansko Clogs, I got a pair of Dansko Carsons. They are a bit pricy ($120). But I like that they are lace up shoes. And they aren't tight over the top of my foot like the clogs. I'm a fan.

I have worn my boots on a couple of occasions and I agree, they are the most comfortable set of footwear I own. However they stain easily and aren't anti-skid. They also make the nurses make fun of me. Maybe if the toes weren't pointy.

The best chairs are the mesh kind that let your back and ass breathe.

The next-gen dansko's are a dream though. I like them so far.
