Shopping List for ADT

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I really wish we had more guidance. I too wasn't able to attend OBLC so I'm just as lost as you are.

Regarding the unis,

You will not find any green Class As unless you wear a 41L or some other ridiculous size. I just went ahead and bought the blues.

ACU stuff is listed in that other thread. You probably want at least two sets. Get fitted for your beret at the military clothing store and go ahead and buy one that fits, then go home and order one of the pre-formed berets from Ranger Joe's. Find someone in the Army you know and try to get them to show you how to shave/shape the issue beret.

Find out what you need to get your CAC from the nearest Army base. Go here in uniform to get used to being in uniform on an Army base.

Do most docs wear the short or long sleeved class b's?

Thanks guys. I'm meeting a recruiter today to go to the base and try to find what I need. Should be tons of fun. Probably won't have a chance to wear the uniform on a base since the nearest is several hours away and I have step 2 at the end of the month and start first ADT Aug 3. Oh well. I'm just preparing myself to get yelled at a lot. 🙂

Okay, so I bought the beret along with all my other stuff. It's flat like a pancake. I take it now I have to do things to it to give it that melted-on look? Is there a youTube or website or anything that can give me some DIY directions? I leave for ADT in August and am taking Step2 right before that, and there's no one local in the Army. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, maybe I should just go down to the recruiter station and hope they take pity on me...
If I order one from Ranger Joe's is it already shaped like it's supposed to be, or will I still have to do stuff to it?

Thanks again...

I got my ranger joe's beret that is supposedly, "pre shaped" and honestly cannot tell a difference. There should be a youtube video or something showing how to shape the beret. Get a fabric shaver from walmart for about $8 and use that to shave the fabric. Learn how it's supposed to look. Only wearing it awhile will allow it to take shape.

After shaving it to the point that you can see the small lines in the fabric, take the wet, hot beret, and stick it on your head. Then, shape it as you see it in the pictures. Flip the top part (where you pin your rank) down, slide as much of the fabric to the right as you can (while keeping the beret level), and smooth out the surface. Then, flip the top part back into position, and ensure a nice crease going diagonally from top left toward your right ear. Smooth all creases, and let it dry on your head (a blow dryer on low heat may help this process). Later, you can learn how to properly fold it, so it maintains its creases, yet can be stuck in a pocket or belt easily.
