One of my recent interviews had component where I was interviewed by a D3 student. While most of my interviews (including my faculty interview at the same school, on the same day) have been 30+ minutes of healthy conversation, this particular student interview lasted no more than ten minutes!

From the very get go, the student seemed rather rushed. She took me back into the interview room, quickly asked me a 3-4 questions, wrote some notes and then abruptly said "Ok it's time to go back!". As she hurried me back to the main waiting room, she asked me if I had any questions for her. I barely had time to ask a few questions, which she curtly answered in the hallway, on the walk back from the interview.

It was so strange. I've never had such an abrupt interview. I think I answered all her questions to the best of my ability, and nothing felt too awkward. I feel like this is probably pretty bad. Either she hated my interview, or she was having a busy day, or she really quickly formed a negative opinion of me as soon as she met me. Hard to say. I'm mostly just venting...it was such an unusual experience. I hope it doesn't ruin my chances..

I wouldn't worry about it, mostly because there's absolutely nothing you can do about it. 😀

But seriously, spend less time trying to read these people and more time reading something interesting.

I feel ya. But you know this waiting for a reply from schools is agonizing! It's hard to not to focus on this little things.

I feel like I was also rushed at one of my interviews. Hey, you can't please everyone.... You never know what they're thinking. Just relax man!

if you feel like you did fine then don't over think it. Be optimistic 🙂
in her mind she was probably like " ok he seems fine, check, check, yes i recommend him, on to the next"

😀

I think sometimes, we just get stuck in strange situations and have to make the best of it. That's all we can do, after all! Luckily, most (if not all) schools let you interview with multiple people, so maybe one sort-of-awkward situation can be weighed out by the others... and there's always the rest of your application that goes into consideration! 😳

I had an interviewer that showed NO emotion the whole time and just read off a list of questions to me in a monotone. None of the questions built on each other, and it was a bit awkward because I had already answered some of the later questions I got in previous answers. I did the very best I could and was genuinely happy with most of my answers, but I definitely felt strange. All of the other interviewees in my group had the same experience, so at least it wasn't just me... but, the other half of the people there on my interview day spoke with an interviewer who was supposedly really outgoing. Ah! I heard the person who interviewed me was like that in real life, so sadly, I don't believe I was just being tested. I could tell this person was extremely smart and probably very good in the field, but I just sort of felt like they didn't want to be there. Oh well. Maybe I still did a good enough job to make an impression, and I feel like it went well with my other interviewers! 🙂

I had the same experience with a fourth year student last year. When I got back to the waiting room I asked one of her class mates if it was normal. She assured me the interviews with that student had all been short. Maybe they rush because they think interviewing is **** work and they drew the short straw. I wouldn't worry about it. However if you don't get accepted (hopefully that will not be the case) give her a call and get her opinions on what went well and how you can improve.

some people do not qualify to take interviewer roles.
this sux.
I sound bitter, but no...seriously!!!! 🙂 ahha
