Short term locums

Hello,

I'm a recent grad from residency, and I'm interested in doing locums. Most of the locums jobs I have been seeing or hearing about from the agencies are for several months in length. I'm interested in travelling around and seeing different places, but I really don't want to spend 3-6 months in any other locations. Currently in Houston and have some relationship and family obligations tying me to the area.

Some older psychiatrists I talked to said there should be lots of jobs that are 1-2 weeks in length, or to cover a specific weekend in an inpatient unit. I'd be really interested in this kind of work.

I was wondering if any of you have heard about these kinds of jobs?

When I was doing locums 5 years ago, two of my gigs were one month in length each. I also have seen emails from agencies within the past few months advertising opportunities for occasional weekend coverage or one week of vacation coverage. Just contact recruiters at some of the agencies and ask them if they have any short-term assignments available.
