Maybe I'll have better luck here.

Another "what are my chances" post:

GPA~3.4 (strong upward trend - only a 2.8 at the end of sophomore year, proceeded by a 3.75, 4.00, 4.00, and likely a 4.00 again this semester, all 18 credit hours). No real reason to explain this other than maturity issues and just plain apathy.

MCAT was 32R (11,10,11)

I don't feel like my EC's are up to par. I have about 100 hours shadowing in the ER and 70 shadowing a neurosurgeon (MD). My LORs are coming from a committee, a EM Physician (DO), and my biochem professor. I have just under 100 hours volunteering (almost all over one summer, though) at a children's hospital. I've worked as a lab "prep" for microbiology/bacteriology labs for the past 2 years, where I hold the "lead" position. I have no research at all, I can't stand doing it. I am not a part of any student organizations. Maybe it's just my school, but they all seem like a waste of time.

I'm mostly worried because although I have As in alot of upper level sciences, like neurobiology, biochemistry, endocrinology, pathophysiology, molecular biology, cell bio, etc., my grades in my prereqs aren't so great. Something like:

Gen Chem 1 B
Gen Chem 2 C
O Chem 1 C
O Chem 2 B
Bio 1 B
Bio 2 C
Physics 1 A
Physics 2 A

Don't know if it matters at all but I'm a 21 year old white male, Texas resident.

What are my chances of getting some interviews? Worth the time and money to apply this cycle or should I just try a post-bacc and wait a year? I feel like a pretty lackluster, generic applicant as I don't really have anything that makes me stand out. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Umm your a Texas resident, with your stats you could probably get into a instate school. I'd apply to Tcom anyways either way. Anyways unless you have a 2,8 Sgpa you'll probably get into a instate texas school.

It would help to know your sGPA.

You appear to be an excellent DO candidate. I don't know TCOM's specific requirements, however I thought I'd read that AACOMAS DO schools in general want you to have a C+ or better in the prerequisites. I don't know if this is a generalization or a written truism. Check with the PreMed Osteo Forum to be certain.

This Mac13 is just like me! Scary!
Well, my GPA and MCAT are higher, actually.

DO schools, strong app.

MD in Tx, a decent shot as long as the sGPA is around 3.4. Some more postbac work may get that GPA up so MD would be in better reach and allow more time to build the ECs. Depends on how bad you want MD.

I think you can get DO now with applying to around 8-10 schools.
