Hey
Can I get some help on NYC psych residency specifically Mt.Sinai, NYU, and Columbia. Im looking for the best residency i can get into, that's not too streesful:
In terms of my grades, I have yet to Honor a class, and I got into 220s on Step1. Im trying to decide if I should do away electives there, or I should not even bother, and go for Einstein, NBI, or Vincents, UMDNJ

Anything is possible, and an elective can help anywhere. My impression is that Columbia and Cornell would require at least a few honors as well as some research, so they'd probably be outside shots for you unless you had some sort of hook. The other programs also look for good grades and research, of course, but are somewhat more flexible in regards to minimum academic requirements.

By the way, stress is in the eye of the beholder--if you find a good fit, hard work and high expectations can be remarkably low stress.

Did you honor your psychiatry clerkship? I think this might be an important factor for admission in terms of Columbia, Cornell, NYU and Mt Sinai -- and probably in terms of the other programs too. If you didn't, though, you could do an audition elective at any of those programs and simply make sure that you perform honors-equivalent work for them. That would help you out in the application process down the road.
