I was talking to a friend who attends an allopathic school and did well on Step 1. He said that they had NBME shelf exams for micro, pharm and path that they took at the end of 2nd year. i think this would be something some osteopathic schools should implement in their curriculum in my opinion. I don't think the NBOME has basic science shelf exams yet, but I think implementing and requiring passing scores on the NBME shelf exams would ensure competency to pass not only USMLE but COMLEX as well.
Was curious to see what you guys think about this? I thought some of the final exams (even regular tests throughout the quarter) for pathology at my school was a joke and no where close to how board exams were written.
