I've already been accepted, and deposited at UConn, and personally i would love to attend, and really like the school. I also really liked Harvard, but i'm on the waitlist...should i academic update??

Details:
I took an IN in my directed study to finish more lab work...long story short i'm not done yet, but he's not going to be updating the grade any time soon (I have publishable data, so we're just waiting until i finish stuff)

My foreign language class i received an A, but my school gives an in progress (IP) until you finish the second semester (to ensure that people fulfill both semesters, which is needed to graduate anyway...uggh)
I have an A and a B

so my transcript looks like A, B, IN, IP => should i update with a 3.5? which lowers my 3.7ish gpa

My transcript WILL look like A, B, A/A- (research), A => 3.75 or 3.68 depending on whether i receive an A or A- in research

Does it look bad to not update? Should i update and then just submit a transcript to Harvard once i get the grades?

Thanks i REALLY need some input, much appreciated

IMO, it is not going to make any difference.

no i think he means it makes no difference b.c you've been accepted so they will care most about your grades after year ends

I think you have to academic update since it's better for the school to know now your progress than at the end of the year. Just call the school and ask. I thought to do that at the end with my school... but I called them and they said to do that even after I was accpeted. And it's noty bad drop ...not like from 3.7 to 3.0 or so. I fyou round up your GPA, it's still 4.0 🙂

no, i'm sorry you are misunderstanding me. i would only update bc i want to show it to Harvard, it doesn't matter for UConn, i WILL have either a 3.68 or 3.75, so in either case it doesn't matter for my gpa, so in either case UConn will not be disappointed bc my gpa will remain the same OR increase

should i update with an IN and IP A and B to show Harvard my current progress? Would that help move me off the waitlist? (basically wondering how much the academic update is worth?) (waiting for the results of my research progress for the IN, and the IP is just how my school does lanugage for the first semester...it updates to an A at the end of the year)

thanks, obviously if i do update it will have to be done tomorrow!

I think AADSAS would have to convert those letter grades into GPA and I am not sure how there are going to covert those IN and IP from your transcript. I suggest calling AADSAS to find out how they are going to deal with IN and IP.

Best of luck for Harvard!

Little off topic, but how does one quarter of As and Bs move your GPA from 3.75 to a 3.5?! Are you a freshman? My last two quarters I got all As and one B+ and I went from 3.55 to a 3.58...

it doesn't, but it moves my semester from 3.5 to 3.7 or 3.68 depending on which A/A- i receive

overall it only changes my overall gpa about .05 or something

I think that you still need to update ur AADSAS web too, because UCSF told me to mail them and AADSAS transcript at same time. I assume that even you got into school, but you still need to update AADASA. am I right?

no, it's an optional update, it is not mandated by any schools i visited, i'm not sure about UCSF. Now with that said it probably is highly recommended for those on wait lists. I've decided not to update, because there is no IP on AADSAS, so i would need to list it as Incomplete, which i feel would reflect poorly on me, considering i received an A in the class.

Dental schools do require that you submit your final transcript at the end of the year once you finish.

I'm extremely excited about attending UConn, if harvard gets back to me too late, then oh well i love farmington. Quite honestly the savings of UConn plus it being an incredible program will put me farther ahead in life than attending Harvard.
