Hi,

I'm currently finishing up the pre-requisites needed for the 8 pharmacy schools I'm planning to apply for the Fall 2012 admission. However, I am working full time as well as going to school so for the final grade this spring semester, I got one C in Physic I, making my GPA a 2.95 overall. I will be taking more classes during the summer and fall of 2011 so I know I can bring up my GPA and I would not be working full time anymore after this month. This C is making me really nervous because my transcript is not at all great. After high school, I wasn't paying much attention in school and did pretty bad throughout my college years until now. I have a lot of F's, W's and retake on my transcript but most of the retakes I have, I've received a grade of an A or B. I've called all the schools I am planning to apply to and talk to them about my situation, they all gave me the answers of "it's okay, just apply" but I am really scare that I would be wasting my time and money. So on your opinion, should I consider applying for Fall 2012 admission? Also do you guys have any reference on any extracurricular activities I should apply for to boost up my resume? Your advises are truly appreciated!!!

what is your science math gpa?
have you taken the pcat?

and dont forget that pharmcas will average retakes in with the better grades (situation i am in).

I don't know what my science math gpa is. No, I have not take the PCAT yet but planning to this September. You are applying for pharmacy school for Fall 2012 too?

What all goes into science GPA? All science and math courses? Since different schools have different pre-req's, I guess it just varies based on the schools?

Do most schools take the new grade if you repeat the course when calculating science GPA?

from what i have read from school sites and been told over the phone by admissions, it seems to vary from school to school some are pre req only others are all math & science. if you want to know for sure give the schools you are intrested in a call

I was in a similar situation. My first trip through college was just a bunch of partying and I received a bunch of C's, B's and W's. After deciding I wanted to be a pharmacist, I went back and took the prereqs I didn't take the first time. Received mostly A's, some B's, and one C in those courses.

If you can show an upward trend in your grades and the rest of your application is solid, you should receive interviews to a few of those 8 schools. I applied to 6 schools and receive an interview to 3.

If you don't mind me asking, what are your gpa, pcat, and volunteer hours like?

My PCAT score sucked. My aunt passed away the night before, so I explained that to the schools in their supplemental applications. Overall GPA was around 2.8, prereq GPA was around 3.5.
However, the rest of my application was excellent in my opinion. I have a 4 year degree. 3 rec letters from 2 pharmacist and my organic professor, who I talked to almost daily, and not just about organic. About 4 years of pharmacy tech experience. Gen chem II TA and organic lab prep for 1 year. I volunteered in a program where we performed science experiments with 4th graders, which was run by my organic professor, for 3 years. Pharm-D club president for 1 year. Personal statement was also top notch.

Absolutely right. If you show that you are determined, it will speak a lot for your character and that is what they are looking for during admissions.
