Hey guys,
new to forum, and i've searched, but cant come up with quite the similar case. im a junior becoming senior, and wondering if i should postpone applying till i graduate or do it in aug/sept immediately after taking mcat.
long story short, im a US citizen from CA. and reside in the US by myself, i came here when i was 13 from taiwan. perfectly fluent in both english and mandarin. capability to understand both cantonese and taiwanese (dialects).
made it fine to college but had a horrible first year and grades, however managed to pull my activites and academics in place, avging 3.7+ in 2nd/3rd year. Right now i have a 3.4 cumulative GPA and a 3.36 sGPA, i am confident that both gpa will go up more after senior year.
extracurriculars include leadership roles in a taiwan social/cultural club (6 semesters of officer position and going, including presidency), student government senator candidate with known campus party, will continue to be involved in the student government as director. Shadowed a neurosurgery team, including clinics and surgeries. volunteer at school health center (1smster so far). volunteered at a medical health foundation during summers in taiwan. (1-2months each year) Undergraduate student instructor for biology lab(1smster). lab assistance/research for6months. work experience for 9months.
i have 3 letter of recs, one from physics, one from bio lab instructor for both the course and student instructor. one from a physician during shadowing.
i guess what im saying is, i will have more activites, higher grades after senior year, (2more smsters at health center for volunteer, additional work experience, student goverment and club experience). I will most likely work to get additional LORs, since some school like one to be from a humanities? i also take some classes for accounting/economics, but not double majoring.
i know the main factor right now would probably be the mcat which i intend to take in aug, so assuming it goes well, would i be fine applying in sept or should i wait a year for more things to show? i go to a school that is known to give out low grades.. and i guess i have a kind of diff pre med app..
and i am not that picky on schools my no.1 pick would be UCIrvine/UCDavis, and going down from there...
advices? =)
