So this is whats down. Graduated from college last spring. Started working an ED tech type of job. Decent experience, bad hours, bad pay,bit of a commute from where I live. Got into a great school Thanksgiving. Kept working at my job in case any January interviews at schools I was still considering came around. I've given notice at my job that I'll be stopping there around mid March. Have a part time tutoring gig lined up for some good hourly pay (probably low hours overall though). I have a small chunk of change saved up from this job and maybe I'll pull in a little bit before August through some tutoring. Considering in all likelihood I'm gonna be taking 200K+ in loans (i.e its not as if working a whole lot is gonna make a big dent) is it all right if I essentially chill out for the next 4.5 months? Just planning on exercising a whole lot, reading a whole lot, cooking up some good eats

I mean I don't know I guess. I don't know if I ought to hustle for some research or something. I was planning on doing that a few months after MS1 started.

NO. Absolutely not. Move to PDX, build your own fixie, work at an artisanal olive oil shop, and try your hardest to not care about anything. Also, neck beard. Then you can return to civilization just before school starts.

You're right. I forgot to add big gains to the list. Bro, you need to start lifting. Everyone knows women and men love big gains. Start drinking that brotein, bro.

If you can afford to take the time off, travel, etc. DO IT!
I took a couple months off before school when I quit my job, 3-4 months before residency, the summer between 1st and 2nd year, again after 2nd but with USMLE study, 2 months before my fellowship, 2 months between jobs.
You never get that kind of free time when you are working or in training.
Take any opportunity you can!
Zero regrets.

OP that is exactly what I am doing right now and it is awesome.

Take the break, be a bum and don't look back. I wish I could take that much time off - I'll have to keep working through the spring and will only get 1 month off before med school, maybe 2. Take advantage of the time you have. I doubt you'll regret it.

Dance horizontally a lot. There will be a "socializing" deficit in med school, as you will soon learn.
