since many of u r still busy in discussing "The important warning" thread i though i wud deviate that topic by my stupid question yet very important to ask.

Suppose we are travelling somewhere (for example in a plane) and we see a patient is suffering from heartattack and there isnt any MD around vicinity. Since pods are trained in Med school and basic topics covered in residency. Then as a good samaritan can a pod help that patient . or do u think as a Pod i shud just turn a blind eye🙁 no matter the patient can even lose his life.

This once happened when we were flying to India, my unlce who is a physician (radiologist) in india was also travelling with us.( but he is not licensed in USA and a foreign medical graduate ), he attended the patient on board but since the plane was not in US air space , nothing happened and thankfully the patient survived, plus he got a free bottle of champagne from the air staff as a courtesy. lol!

But i was just curious can a Pod jump on the scene only and only if there is no MD or a nurse available. I know US airlines carry health kits, etc and staff is trained for these emergencies. But believe me there are many airlines that doenst have that facilities. So iam asking in that condition. iam not asking abt long term treatment but just like doing basic stuff and giving emergency medication like sublingual medication, etc.

Most pods graduate with a BLS and ACLS certification (at least at DMU, they do). I would jump in and help out!

Anyone that is certified in BLS should help; I don't care if the person is a high school girl who babysits.

Also, in the US there Good Samaritan laws which release all liability to anyone who is assisting a person that is in a life threating situation such as MI, choking, or if a crime is being committed against the person.

There has been a long standing story about someone who gets sued for breaking a person's ribs while doing CPR. You can get sued but it will not stand up in court.

thanks for the info!

i heard this story, an MD was driving his car and he came across a car accident. The patient had something stuck in his nasal passage (iam not sure wat it was) but over all the story goes like these, he made a hole near the neck so tat the patient cud continue breathing. The patient was saved, he went to hospital ,etc. Now after 2 weeks the patient sued the MD bcoz he hadnt used a sterile equipment to make that puncture and because of that he had developed some respiratory infection. but as u said the MD got free, nothing happened.

so i was wondering, wat if a DPM treats (Since DPMs are not MDs) and later something happens and he gets sued, will they raise the question why did u treat something that was not in ur scope, etc. But now u have cleared my doubt. thank u.

I think one thing we forget is in the US all it takes is the ability to fill out a legal complaint and the money pay the filing fee. That is all it takes to sue.

I could sue you for no reason, what happens is most bs litigation never makes it out of the early stages.

oh plzzz dont sue me, i am a poor indian guy working at a seven eleven/gas station with a fifth hand toyota corolla. lol! i wont be able to give u anything.

Good Samaritan laws, in my opinion, are an excellent thing. That way if i'm having a heart attack, no MD will second guess trying to help (at least I hope not). I still wouldnt suggest as a DPM to cut someone's throat like you mentioned (unless we do learn that at school). But for those of you at school, would you feel confident in doing that or even dealing with a collapsed lung (using a pen if necessary can help, but I dont think I myself would unless if it was the last option)?

Be a good samaritan and go vote 😀

NO MORE COMMERCIALS!!!!

and topinka (chicago gov canidate) insulted the CUBS!!!! and then she lost hahaha

Looks like Schwarzenegger won for Cali again  Oh well at least I'll get his signature on my BS diploma 😀
