I'm a traditional applicant, 515 evenly distributed, 3.77 sGPA 3.84 cGPA w/chemistry b.s. major. I've done 1000 hours neuroscience research w publication, received grant and completed clinical research looking at hospital re admission/health literacy, helped start a patient advocacy program at my university hospital, volunteer at an elementary school, have ~100 hours shadowing, was a class TA and shadowed/volunteered at a hospital in a foreign country for a month.

I completely my apps in the beginning of August. I go to a top five public university. I know my school list is top heavy but I've only received two interviews. One from my current school and one from NYU. Should I expect to get any more invites?

@LizzyM @Goro would love input!

You have a good app. The only thing I can see is that you're list was a little too heavy with your MCAT. 2 Interviews is good though and shows how solid your app is.

Top heavy. If you don't get in this year (you may still!), apply much more broadly and you should have no problem getting in. I did the same thing. It's not the end of the world but you aren't out of the game yet. Good luck.

Wayyy to top heavy. Apply broadly next year (assuming you don't get in this year) and you'll be a doctor regardless of the school rank!

You seem to have a good app and top schools are known to interview people with slightly lower MCAT scores than their averages that have impressive applications. How strong do you think your essays and LORs were?

In any case, remember that you only need one acceptance. People may interview at 10 schools and get only one acceptance and some people may interview at 1 school and get 1 acceptance. The process isn't too predictable - especially among top schools.

Your list is wayyyyy too top heavy. You still have a decent shot at an acceptance but you took on more risk than you should have IMO. Just to give you an idea I have a 516, >3.7 GPA with STRONG upward trend, over 1000 hours of clinical work experience (Phlebotomist.) A first author publication (also happens to be neuroscience, well, more pharmacology/ behavior I suppose.) Lots of leadership (fraternity president for a year, ran a community fundraiser, tutored for a few years) a decent amount of volunteering (at an ortho clinic in the bronx and at a hospice) and I have a couple shadowing experiences.

With my app I didn't think I had any chance with schools like Mayo and Johns Hopkins and basically all of the schools on your list since realistically I don't.

The schools I have received IIs at are:
West Virginia, Albany, SUNY Upstate, SUNY Stony Brook, Rosalind Franklin and Carver COM (Iowa.) plus I applied to more schools than you did.

Be glad you have received IIs to solid schools, and if it doesn't work out, you know to just apply more broadly next cycle. You're in a great position.

forgive me but I can't tell if this is a joke, is there a significance to Feb 28th?

Mardi gras rule.

Ding, ding, ding ! @libertyyne for the win.

The Mardi Gras rule is that you should make a new plan if you don't have an offer by Mardi Gras (which is on Feb 28, 2017). I suspect that the OP will have at least one offer by then and therefore should have no worries at this point.

So, there's the Turkey rule and the Mardi Gras rule... any others? Out of pure curiosity, of course.

our application is basically the same...I'm in the exact same boat...wondering if I'll get more interviews :/

I believe your list is out of control. Here is a more realistic list where you would be above the median LizzyM.
Icahn
Mayo
Ohio State University College Of Medicine
Emory
Duke
University of Cincinnati
University of Iowa
St Louis
U of Rochester
Einstein
U of Miami
Unversity of Colorado School of Medicine
Hofstra
Dartmouth

loyola

With that school list, I'd say you won't get any more interviews. Not at this point. But two is not bad, if you do well at those, you'll have great shot.
