Dear all,

I am the last year resident in internal medicine and will join a private practice group this July.

I was offered 2 jobs but none of both covers tail insurance, here is the detail.

1. The first employer offers me a hospitalist position with full benefits except tail coverage that is covered 20% each year.

- if I leave after 1 year: they will pay 20% of tail coverage
- if I leave after 2 year: they will pay 40% of tail coverage
- if I leave after 3 year: they will pay 60% of tail coverage
- if I leave after 4 year: they will pay 80% of tail coverage
- if I leave after 5 year: they will pay 100% of tail coverage

2. The second employer offers me a outpatient care position including urgent care,

- Health, Dental, Vision for me only, not for my spouse and kids
- no tail coverage during the first 5 years
- after 5 years: 100% tail coverage

It's hard to negotiate because they have estalished their practice for 50 years.

My attending told me that I should buy own malpractice insurance as he did before, and asked them to reimburse the premiums (as much as possible).

Do you have any idea about this? Do anyone know how much I have to pay for the first 5 years? which carrier? I will practice medicine in southern California.

Thanks.
