Ok so I have been accepted to RVUCOM MSBS and know their program is pretty good and I am on the WL for CHSUCOM. I am asking if I were to gain an A to CHSUCOM, what would be the better offer? I want to stay competitive for all specialties, I have my eyes set on derm and GI although that may change during school. RVUCOM has a great match list, CHSU is brand new. RVUCOM also forces students to take the Steps which I would prefer to be taking as well. CHSU doesn't encourage students to take it but I know a few that will be. If I pick CHSU, I would be in school and be able to manage possibly rotating at an IM program that takes in house GI fellows but not sure about derm as I think boards would be a huge factor.... If I take the RVUCOM MSBS, their is a chance I succeed but also could fail (Don't plan on it)... I talked to the PD and she said that most students are passing the program and entering their COM which has amazing IM matches... Its a pretty complex decision and wanted some opinions... At the end of the day, I will be happy to be a doc in no matter what I pursue.
As it's a brand new school I can't recommend CHSU. Their rotation sites seem to be awfully few as well.

Your job now is to do well and get into med school and worry about specialty later.

And honestly, as a reinventor, your track record is not one of a student who eventually matches into Derm or one of the other Uber-specialties.

The fact that you think you wanna go into dermatology or GI should not bear any weight on where you go to school (unless maybe you are deciding between MD/DO) and even at that, as a premed, you have no idea what you want to do. Most medical students change their minds multiple times for multiple reasons before landing in their specialty.

CHSUCOM is new. RVU is proven and a great school with solid rotations. The biggest problem with DO schools is clinical rotations. The "pushing you to take boards" doesn't matter either. You will see that once you get into a school, YOU are the one in the driver's seat for boards. Basically, if you wanna take both you take both and if you wanna do well, you are gonna have to take your studying into your own hands and do well. Whether you go to RVU or CHSU, you are gonna have to study hard to do well on boards.

My advice is to go to RVU though simply because I have better faith that your educational base will be better there with years of experience and solid rotations. I feel like CHSU is still trying to figure things out.
