I grew up kinda poor (on medicaid and food stamps, no car, living in a basement in a house with a bunch of people) but my parents studied through the years, and around the time I was about 14/15 one parent got a doctorate degree and well-paying job which drastically changed our socio-economic situation.
I entered in my parents educational info and said "yes" to ever receiving government assistance. But I do not consider myself a disadvantaged applicant so I planned to say "no" to that question. But I feel that my application looks a bit contradictory -- saying I received govt assistance but also one parent with a doctorate degree? I just want a place to be able to explain, but I also don't really feel my situation warrants being disadvantaged because I never felt behind academic-wise. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!
I'm leaning to yes - you were disadvantaged.
