Hi everyone,
I need a year of reinvention and I am choosing to do either an SMP or a Postbac. My GPA at the moment is 2.92 and I am about to start my senior year, I am planning to take my MCAT in January. I am trying to figure out my options and plan out wisely what is best for me. I will apply to both SMP and PostBac programs, however, I am conflicted with GPA wise and admittance wise which would be better? Which would help with improving my gpa and chances of getting into medical school?
Thanks!
Do the post-bacc is almost always my suggestion unless you're completely beyond redemption. Only a postbacc will help your GPA as SMP courses are not counted in your GPA. Either way, to reinvent with your current GPA, you will need an excellent performance. Right now, with a GPA of 2.92, you would be a candidate for neither DO nor MD schools. I think the ideal thing to do is to get at least 2 years of credits from a post-bacc and subsequently take the MCAT. If that all goes very well, you'll be in great shape.
