Does anyone know if it is beneficial to attend the university prior to applying to its pharmacy school? I'm asking because I've read somewhere that Xavier's [New Orleans, LA] students are given the opportunity before any other school's students.
If so, are there any other schools that do this?

Also, do any pharmacy schools start in the spring?

Check with the school, since it's the only way to get in to some. UConn for example, only accepts CT residents or non-CT residents that did their pre-reqs at UConn. So if you live in Mass or RI and want to go to Uconn Pharmacy School, you must do your prereqs there.

Yeah, UConn seems really unique. It's like a 2+4 / 0-6 hybrid, LOL.

The whole "learning communities" thing seems odd, it feels like the UC Berkeley of the east!

If you are looking at a state school and you are a resident of that state, then I think they will favor you. As far as favoring you because you attend the school, i dont think it happens much, but i could be wrong. I haven't looked into every pharmacy school in the U.S. I know that SWOSU in weatherford, OK accepts students every semester, but they strongly favor oklahoma residents.

It certainly won't hurt you if you attend the school at which you intend to complete a PharmD. The advantage varies. I'd recommend sitting down with someone from admissions from the school you are considering. I did this before entering undergrad, and was basically told it would not matter if I completed my undergrad at that school (which had a pharmacy school) or my state school (which did not have a pharmacy school on that campus)...and they were right, I was accepted to that school 4 years later.

I do not know of any pharmacy schools that begin in spring. Even the distance learning programs start in fall, I believe.

Yep, California schools don't give priority to those who attend the same school. I think academic incest is frowned upon here. I didn't know that before I decided to attend UCSD as an undergrad. Shucks. 😏 I don't know about other states though.

University of Arizona is really into giving home field advantage to Arizonians (esp. their undergrad Wildcats...) so I hear 😉
