I want to apply to med schools this june but also take some grad classes at SFU's "unofficial postbac" program. So this means I'll be taking these classes while I'm applying. It sounds kind of pointless because my primary apps will get to the schools before I'm even done with the first set of classes?? I'm confused. I want to improve my GPA but I don't want to take another year off in addition to this upcoming school year. Does anyone have any ideas? (GPA=3.5, BCPM=3.2) Thanks.

I would suggest trying to find a post-bac program that has linkage agreements. Some are still accepting applications. I know that Drexel and some others are.

Did you already apply and were rejected everywhere? If so, I think you are going to have to get a full year of grades and apply next year.

If this is your first time applying you might get in somewhere but you didn't state your MCAT scores. I had a 3.04 GPA and BCPM and a 32S MCAT score and I applied to 47 medical schools and only got one interview.

I am applying to post-bacs and got accepted to EVMS last week. I also got into an osteopathic school but am pretty sure I am going to EVMS because it sounds like a good chance of matriculating into EVMS after one year if I apply myself.

If it's any consolation, I'm 31 years old. So if it takes one, two, three years to get in, so what. You will be a practicing physician by the time I'm just starting! 🙂

What's the rush? Line your ducks up in a row and then apply. Take the extra year, and use it to improve your ECs as well. The number one mistake people make while doing the postbac route is rushing things and not putting their best foot forward.

Were there any post bac programs that you were not acceptded to? They sound fairly easy to get into. I have a ****ty undergrad gpa, but i have a 3.256 with a masters in graduate level classes, and I will have a 3.4 if you include this semester and summe,r assuming I get a's

Thanks for the replies. I sent out the primary aamcas last yr but only did a few secondaries and got rejected. I retook the MCAT in April and I don't think I did too well. I'm just looking for other options. Originally I didn't plan to take a break btw undergrad and grad but things didnt go as planned. I'm already in my first year off and since I'm applying again in June I will also be taking next year off. So I don't want to do a program where I'll have to take yet another year off. I know ppl are going to say what's the rush, but I want to get on with my life. I don't like this in between stage and two years off is plenty for me. I just applied to the RFUSM AP program this week but I'm thinking its way too late to get accepted so I wanted to check out some other options.

Your question is one that has been stuck in my mind since its something I've been deliberating about! Im applying to PostBac this year (two interviews-1 acceptance) and I, too, want to apply while in school. Consider DuQuesne PostBac- I just got accepted and during my interview, the director acknowledged that alot of their students apply for med school while they are in the postbac program. I dont think their deadline is up yet...
Besides that, Im taking MCAT pep courses this summer and my school gpa will def improve from this semester's grades.

I still would like some advice from others though....
Question: Im applying to med school this year again, but Im concerned about submitting my apps in June vs. October (when august 2005 scores will be released). I took last yrs mcat- didnt do so hot- and Im taking august 2005 mcat. With proper prep, Im hoping to do much better. Should I wait to apply when my scores come out in October? Will it be too too late by then?

Thanks all! i luv this site!
