I am currently a Spanish major at UCI in Irvine, CA. Just recently I got interested in doing pre-med or pre-optometry. In either case, does it matter if I do these requisities at my current university or should I just take these classes off-campus at city college for 1 year? Would admission prefer courses to be taken at university since it is harder and also hard to get good grades compared to city? I don't want to go to city college and find out that I took the easy way out. Thanks

They would prefer it if you took it at your 4 year. At least that is what I heard a simple search would work.

University would be a better choice. But as long as the City College is a 4 year institution like Manraj76 said, it shouldn't be a make or break deal as long as you have good reasons (financial, etc).

If you can afford it, stick with UCI. Otherwise, take em at GWC and OCC like I'm doing now. 😀

Its all college level so it does not matter really. What matters the most is your grade.

btw, in case you did not know. You can get credit on your university transcript for classes you take at a city college if that college is accredited.

Some med schools may think that you were trying to take the easy way out because, as you said yourself, the university is harder. Someone who has good grades from a U will be considered better academically than someone with good grades from community college.

There are instances where you can get by with community college classes but it is not ideal.

Take them at the 4 year university.

Registering for biology, chemistry, physics, etc.. was restricted at the University I went to.
