Should I Do Retakes?

So my freshman year I had some serious issues--ended with a cGPA around 2.75 (yikes!). I've really pulled up my grades in a pretty significant way since then but due to that first year it's still lower than I'd like (sitting around 3.4ish with one year left) but due to that freshman year where I got a B- in Gen Chem I, B- in Gen Chem II, C in Calculus I, and C+ in Anatomy, I really am struggling to overcome that. I know for a fact I can retake all these classes with A's in Gen Chem I and Gen Chem II, and probably an A- in Calc and Anatomy. Should I retake if I have the time, just to prove I'm not a total idiot?

I anticipate doing well on the MCAT but obviously you never know so....

For what it's worth, I went on to advanced chem and got a B+, A- in Bio I and II, taken several advanced bio classes with A's, psych classes with A's, and OChem I so far with an A-.

Hey, it could be worse! I think that if you have the time, you should retake. However, if you're only in your 2nd year, I think you have ample time to boost your GPA. Try and calculate your future cGPA when you graduate and see if you think this will be competitive enough for the schools you're interested in - if not, try it with grade replacement to determine if you should retake. A HUGE factor to keep in mind is also seeing if the schools you would like to apply to accept grade replacements.

No need for retakes if you have a solid rising GPA trend.
